Sunnyvale Community Activities
Sunnyvale, California lies in the Silicon Valley and there are numerous diversions in which one may engage within this community. While the community itself hosts events on an ongoing basis, the nearby Bay Area is also full of activities making the area a hub of events year round. There are numerous art fairs, craft shows, community concert events and seasonal celebrations that characterize this Silicon Valley community. The city is small enough that it retains a small-town feel despite its being located in one of the most dynamic economies and areas of the nation.
Much of the Sunnyvale community information residents require is available on the city’s Internet site. Of course, the Internet is largely a creation of the Silicon Valley so it’s hardly surprising that one would find Silicon Valley community news posted in this fashion! The city maintains its own website which is a clearing house for Sunnyvale community information. Not only is community activity information posted on this site, there is vital information that is needed by the citizens of the community in the course of living their daily lives.
There are a number of universities and technical colleges located throughout the Silicon Valley and these are excellent sources of information about activities taking place in the area. The colleges comprise everything from a Jesuit university to graphic design schools to trade schools and all of them throw various events throughout the year or, at least, publish event-related information on their sites. Silicon Valley community news is also available in the local newspapers which still continue to publish despite the irony that the Internet for which the Silicon Valley is largely responsible continues to replace newspapers as the dominant source of news, community, world or otherwise! These communities are vibrant and active and residents will have plenty to do.
Recognized as the “Heart of Silicon Valley,” Sunnyvale, with a population of approximately 138,000, is the fifth largest city in the San Francisco Bay Area and the second largest in Santa Clara County. Sunnyvale was incorporated in 1912 and, over the years, has transformed from an agricultural community, to a center for the defense industry, to the current nexus of research, development and manufacturing that created Silicon Valley. Sunnyvale is home to notable companies such as Yahoo!, Advanced Micro Devices, NetApp, and Lockheed Martin Space Systems. The draw of working in this dynamic community swells the City’s daytime workforce to 230,000. |
