Sunnyvale Attractions
Parks, symphonies and museums are a few of the more sophisticated attractions available for residents and visitors. The City of Sunnyvale sponsors free cultural events throughout the year, including Read-Along Shakespeare, which gives aficionados of the Bard an opportunity to read through their favorite Shakespeare plays with other lit lovers, as well as dance performances and concerts in Ortega Park gazebo. Several museums in the area offer exhibits on diverse topics as agriculture, lace, technology and Japanese-American history and culture. In addition, nearby Monterrey Bay Aquarium is home to several beautiful exhibits of marine wildlife such as jellyfish and giant octopus, and the world famous 17-Mile Drive, which meanders along the Pacific Coast, is also just a short car trip away.
For those who prefer other kinds of entertainment, Sunnyvale and the surrounding environs offer much in the way of amusement parks, water parks and even a world-class skate park. The Sunnyvale Skate Park was awarded a 7.5 out of a possible 10 by Thrasher magazine. Nearby San Jose is home to Raging Waters, a 23-acre water park, and Paramount's Great America theme park is right up the street in Santa Clara. Mountain View's Shoreline Amphitheater was recently named Pollstar's Best Large Outdoor Amphitheater and features a diverse array of musical acts (recent acts include Pink Floyd's Roger Waters, Kelly Clarkson, and Nine Inch Nails).
Sunnyvale benefits from its central location in Northern California. The Pacific Ocean is less than an hour away, and the famous redwood forests of California are even closer. San Francisco, San Jose, and Santa Clara – all of which are home to dozens of unique attractions and vibrant communities - are just a short drive away.
