Teens host movie night, food drive
The Sunnyvale Teen Advisory Council is hosting a free teen movie night and canned food drive to benefit Sunnyvale Community Services.
For each canned food item donated, donors will receive a food ticket. Food tickets can be redeemed for hot chocolate, hot dogs or popcorn.
The event takes place May 3 at 6:30 p.m. at Serra Park, 730 The Dalles Ave., and features the animated film Frozen.
Attendees must be ages 12-18, and be a middle or high school student and Sunnyvale resident. School ID is required.

Obama honors Lockheed volunteers
President Obama’s 2013 President’s Volunteer Service Awards (PVSA) were presented to more than 2,900 Lockheed Martin employees across the country during National Volunteer Week, April 6-12, and throughout the month of April.
To qualify for a PVSA, individuals must participate in 100 or more hours of volunteer service during a 12-month period. In the Bay Area, there were 204 employees who received the award, and 457 employees logged a total of 66,829 volunteer hours.
Lockheed Martin employees in California recorded 109,399 volunteer hours last year. Throughout 2013, Lockheed Martin PVSA award recipients logged a combined total of almost 800,000 hours in service to others.
Homestead holds booster dinner, auction
Homestead High School’s annual dinner and auction will be May 10 from 5:30 to 10 p.m. at David’s Banquet Hall, 5151 Stars and Stripes Drive, in Santa Clara. Tickets are $95 for a sit-down dinner and the opportunity to bid on numerous items that have been donated for this event.
Proceeds from the event go toward extracurricular groups on campus.

Pet and Play adoption at Pooch Hotel
Pooch Hotel in Sunnyvale is hosting a “Pet and Play” adoption event on April 26 that will match up potential pet owners with adoptable dogs through quick playdates.
Adoption specialists from Copper’s Dream Rescue will compare profiles of pet owners and dogs to find the best suitable matches, and after a five-minute speed date with each match, pet owners can decide which dog they’d like to take home.
The event takes place from 1 to 3 p.m. at the Pooch Hotel, 180 N. Wolfe Road. Refreshments will be provided for both people and dogs.
