Radio star challenged by Mercy St.

In an effort to raise money for its programs, Mercy Street Family Resource Center has dared local radio personality Marcus D. of Star Mornings with Marcus D. and Sandy from Star 101.3 San Francisco to come to its Halloween party on Oct. 25 dressed as Clifford the Dog.

He accepted the dare if the center can raise $3,000, so it can continue to support families in the community. Mercy Street hopes to see Marcus D. dress up as Clifford the Dog and read a good Halloween book to the kids.

The event will take place at Washington Park in Sunnyvale from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. To watch the dare video, visit dareme.co/s2.

Mercy Street FRC is a program that helps families with young children, focusing on early literacy, obesity prevention and social skills building. For more infomation about the program, visit mercystreetfrc.blogspot.com.

Volunteers needed at the polls

The Santa Clara County Registrar of Voters is calling upon residents to serve as volunteer election officers for the Nov. 4 election, which will require staffing 834 polling locations in nine languages throughout Santa Clara County.

This year, the registrar of voters is looking for election officers fluent in Hindi, Japanese, Khmer and Korean, in addition to election officers fluent in English, Chinese, Spanish, Tagalog and Vietnamese.

Anyone who is registered to vote in the state of California or is a legal permanent resident can become an election officer. Experience is not necessary, as training is provided.

Volunteers are paid stipends starting at $95. Volunteers can also earn a supplemental stipend for bilingual skills.

Anyone who is interested in volunteering to be an election officer is asked to contact the registrar of voters’ office at 408.299.7655 or sccvote.org.

Library to publish own eBook

The Sunnyvale Public Library will become the third library in the country to publish its own eBook, and is soliciting works from local authors focusing on stories and poems either set in or about life in the greater Bay Area. The first 100 submissions received by Nov. 30 are eligible.

A panel of creative writing instructors and representatives from five Bay Area library systems will read and score the entries. The Bay Area Library ePublishers (BALE) will then produce an anthology of the top-ranked manuscripts in an eBook that will be added to library collections throughout the Bay Area and beyond.

More information can be found at GetePublished.inSunnyvale.com or by contacting librarian Liz Hickok at 408.730.2772 or shickok@sunnyvale.ca.gov.
