Vector Control evaluation meetings

The Santa Clara County Vector Control District will hold public meetings for review of its draft environmental evaluation report on Dec. 4 and 11 at 6:30 p.m. Both meetings will be held at the Department of Environmental Health Auditorium, located at 1555 Berger Drive, Building 2, in San Jose.

The report provides an analysis of the district’s operations and activities and their potential effect on the environment. Although the district’s operations are exempt from review under the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA), the county is voluntarily seeking public feedback on Vector Control activities. This draft also lays the groundwork for any future changes in operations which would require further analysis.

The draft environmental evaluation will be available for public review at SCCgov.org/sites/vector/Pages/Environmental-Evaluation.aspx until Dec. 30. Residents interested in submitting written comments and questions can email vectorinfo@deh.sccgov.org or send mail to Santa Clara County Vector Control District, 1580 Berger Drive, San Jose, CA, 95112.

Sunnyvale resident named service hero

Terry Keisic of Sunnyvale was recognized as a Community Service Hero at the seventh annual American Red Cross Silicon Valley Chapter Heroes Breakfast on Nov. 6.

Keisic is a volunteer with the Applied Materials Emergency Response Team, which has full-time hazmat trained professionals. He has done CPR training for four or five years.

Keisic was at a fitness boot camp at a local community center when a person had a massive heart attack and had no pulse. He started CPR when an off-duty nurse came to help. An ambulance quickly arrived and the man is recovering well and even welcomed a grandchild recently.
