Summer food program continues
Columbia Middle School and the Lakewood YMCA are two sites in Sunnyvale where free lunch is served to any child 18 and younger through Aug. 15. There are 68 sites in Santa Clara County.
Some of the sites also offer free breakfast and an afternoon snack. The meals are provided through the federal Summer Food Service Program.
Families who are struggling to put food on the table should call Second Harvest Food Bank’s Food Connection multilingual hotline at 800.984.3663 to learn about food-assistance programs that can help, including summer feeding sites and CalFresh food stamps.
FEMA Corps team assisting at Moffett Field
The AmeriCorps National Civilian Community Corps’ FEMA Corps team, Gold Three, is assisting operations at the Moffett Field FEMA distribution center (DC Moffett) for two months. Through Aug. 18, the team of six will work closely with FEMA logistics specialists at DC Moffett, one of nine national FEMA distribution centers.
The mission of DC Moffett is to support disaster survivors with food, water and emergency supplies. Located at the NASA Ames Research Center, DC Moffett staff work to plan, manage and sustain national logistics response and recovery in support of domestic emergencies and special events.
Gold Three will support daily operations by assisting in receipt, storage and issuance of commodities and equipment for domestic disaster support; fleet transportation and generator maintenance to ensure mission readiness; and planning, sourcing, inventory and delivery of commodities to storage or disaster locations.
