DPS hosting tipping event

Sunnyvale Public Safety officers will be seating and serving patrons of Firehouse Grill, 111 S. Murphy Ave., on Aug. 28 from 5 to 9 p.m. to benefit the Special Olympics.

The annual Tip-A-Cop event teams local law enforcement with Special Olympics athletes to serve as wait staff and gather extra tips for athletes’ training and competition. Donations are tax deductible.

The event raises money to provide local Special Olympics athletes with free year-round sports training and competition opportunities in 11 different sports.

Panel talk on development

Friends of Caltrain, the Silicon Valley Leadership Group and Sunnyvale Cool are co-hosting a panel discussion called “Growth Without Gridlock.”

The panel includes those with expertise about how cities, employers and residential developments are addressing traffic and parking issues. Trudi Ryan with the city of Sunnyvale, Martin Alkire with the city of Mountain View and Jeff Oberdorfer with First Community Housing will be sharing their thoughts on whether it is possible to have growth without gridlock.

The panel takes place on Aug. 27 from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at the Sunnyvale Heritage Park Museum, 570 E. Remington Drive. Snacks will be provided.

Fundraiser for family

Heidi Crouch, wife of Sunnyvale Public Safety officer John Crouch and mother of their two small children, suffered a brain aneurysm on the morning of July 4.

Since then, she has had numerous surgeries and procedures. Family and friends are raising funds to help with the financial burden the family faces and to support a woman known for being an active member of Morgan Hill Bible Church and a board member for Morgan Hill Pop Warner.

The Heidi Crouch Luau Fundraiser will be Aug. 30 at 5 p.m. at the Sunnyvale Elks Lodge No. 2128, 375 N. Pastoria Ave. Tickets are $40 for adults and $25 for children ages 5-12.
