Event is in 33rd year
Teachers, students, staff and residents are coming together again for a day of exercise with a juicy reward at the end.
The Fremont High School Watermelon Run, started as an event for the cross country team, has been an annual tradition at the school for 33 years and has since grown from a modest 50 participants to more than 500 in recent years.
“This is a fun-filled annual event which began as a training event for the cross country team and has evolved into a wonderful community event where hundreds of people run or walk a 2-mile route at FHS,” said Sue Larson, communications coordinator for the Fremont Union High School District.
The 2-mile dash is open to the public, and people of all running skill levels are invited to participate.
Watermelon trophies will be given out to the fastest runners in a number of categories, which include teachers, staff members, alumni, stroller runners and students by grade level. All participants gets watermelon.
The race starts promptly at 3:30 on Sept. 8 at the Fremont High football field.
