SUNNYVALE — A person’s body was found early Tuesday morning inside a home that was destroyed by a two-alarm fire, according to the Sunnyvale Dept. of Public Safety.

Firefighters have not identified the person’s identity or gender, but neighbors told authorities one person lived inside the home on Fisherhawk Drive, according to Capt. Jeff Hunter.

One neighbor said a man in his mid- to late 70s lived at the home. The neighbor said the homeowner went on daily walks and lived in the neighborhood for more than four decades.

“He was a very nice man,” said the neighbor, who declined to give his name. “It’s tough to see.”

Fire investigators responded to the scene and were working to determine how to safely enter the home.

Although firefighters don’t have any information at this point indicating the blaze was intentionally set, they are treating the home as a crime scene.

“Anytime there is a fatality we always treat it as a crime scene,” Hunter said. “It’s the appropriate thing to do for such a serious incident.”

Fire crews responded to the blaze just after 5 a.m. When crews arrived they found the single-story home fully engulfed in flames and requested a second alarm, Hunter said.

Firefighters extinguished the blaze about an hour later. Firefighters located a body in the rear of the residence.

The roof of the home collapsed.
