Santa Clara County Low Cost Spay Neuter Program

Santa Clara County recognizes the long term benefits that can be achieved by providing a widely available, low cost spay/neuter program for as many of the County's cats and dogs as possible. Toward the objective of improving health and quality of life for the citizens of Santa Clara County and the animals they care about, the low cost spay/neuter programs for cats and dogs, which are summarized below, are available to all residents of Santa ClaraCounty.

Spay/Neuter Program for Feral Cats

Under the feral/stray cat low cost spay/neuter program, the cat's caregiver pays $10 per cat, with the County paying the participating clinic the balance of the cost of surgeries provided to a healthy cat. In addition to spay/neuter services, cats receive rabies and distemper vaccinations. Also, in order to provide caregivers, participating clinics and other concerned parties including County Animal Care and Control a method for tracking whether or not a feral cat has been processed through the County's low cost spay/neuter program, each feral cat receiving treatment through the program has one ear notched in a manner conspicuous enough to make its identification as a sterile individual somewhat easier without handling the cat. The practice of ear-notching is a generally accepted part of a humane "Trap-Neuter-Release" or "TNR" program for feral cats. Appointments are always required so please contact the participating clinic for more information.

Spay/Neuter Program for Domestic Cats

Under the domestic cat programs, the County pays the participating clinic a flat fee of $20 for each cat with the cat owner/guardian paying the participaing clinic the balance of the cost of surgeries provided to a healthy cat. In addition to spay/neuter services, cats receive rabies and distemper vaccinations. Appointments are always required so please contact the participating clinic for more information.

Spay/Neuter Program for Dogs

Under the low cost spay/neuter program for dogs, the County pays the participating clinic a flat fee of $50 for each dog with the dog's owner/guardian paying the participating clinic the balance of the cost of surgeries provided to a health dog. In addition to spay/neuter services, dogs receive rabies vaccinations. Appointments are always required so please contact the participating clinic for more information.

In all cases, health issues or conditions may affect the price of the surgery. For example, a pregnant animal or one in heat will result in additionals fees. Other health conditions may also affect the treatment provided and the cost. Please consult the providing clinic for details specific to your animal.

Participating ClinicsThe clinics listed below participate in the 2007 Santa Clara County Low Cost Spay/Netuer Programs, however not all participating clinics offer services for feral cats, even those in traps or cages. Please verify availability of services for feral cats in advanced with the clinic you plan to use. Domestic cats should always be brought to the participating clinic in a carrier, all dogs must be on leash and please, always call in advance for an appointment!
