SAN JOSE — Police on Saturday were investigating the death of a pedestrian who was struck by a car and killed after apparently walking into traffic.

As of late Saturday, police had not determined the identity of the male victim, who appeared to be in his mid-20s, Sgt. Enrique Garcia said.

At 12:09 a.m. Saturday, police received a call about a collision on Story Road near Diana Avenue in East San Jose. According to witnesses, a gray Infiniti sedan traveling west in the slow lane on Story struck the pedestrian, who crossed in front of the car. The pedestrian, who was headed north, was not in a crosswalk.

Emergency responders pronounced the man dead at the scene of the crash at 12:18 a.m.

The driver of the Infiniti, a 29-year-old San Jose man, stopped and cooperated with investigators. Neither alcohol nor speed was a factor in the collision, Garcia said.

Anyone with information on the collision may contact detective Kelvin Pham in the San Jose Police Department’s traffic investigations unit at 408-277-4654.
