MOUNTAIN VIEW — A person was hit by a train and killed during the height of commute hour Friday night, according to a Caltrain spokeswoman.

Christine Dunn said around 6 p.m., a northbound Caltrain struck and killed person on the train tracks between the Mountain View and Sunnyvale train stations.

There were no injuries to any of the 59 passengers on board the train. Officials did not immediately know why the person was on the tracks. The maximum authorized speed for Caltrain is 79 miles an hour.

Crews are at the scene investigating the incident, but commuters can expect delays. Trains are moving slowly between Mountain View and Sunnyvale.

This is the tenth fatality on Caltrain tracks this year.
