It was a busy spring and summer for many members of the Sunnyvale Wrestling Club, a group comprised primarily of boys and girls from Fremont High.
Gary Miltenberger (285 pounds) and Dominick Huerta (160) were among the busiest, traveling to Fargo, N.D., for the U.S. Junior Nationals and to Oklahoma City, Okla., as part of a junior duals team. They also visited Las Vegas, where both placed fifth in the Junior Freestyle Western Regionals.
Angelo Reyes (Cadet 106 pounds) and Ezra Clark (Junior 132) also competed at Fargo and they fared well on a regional team trip to Pocatello, Ida.
At the Junior Festival in Idaho, Clark finished second in folkstyle, third in freestyle and fourth in Greco, while Reyes was fourth in freestyle and sixth in folk. Eli Clark and Jeremiah Holbrook also made the Idaho competition.
Placers at the Freestyle State tourney included Miltenberger (2nd), Huerta (4th), Reyes (4th), Holbrook (7th), Modan Goldman (7th) and Eli Clark (8th).
Miltenberger won the Greco State title, while Reyes and Ezra Clark claimed seconds. Holbrook was fifth and Joshua Aceves and Huerta were each seventh.
Members of the Santa Clara Valley Wrestling Association All-Star Team included Reyes, David Tran, Ezra Clark, Huerta, Holbrook and Miltenberger.
Other Sunnyvale Club wrestlers who competed in the spring or summer were Robert Reyno, Sam Ibanez, Ryan Lee, Derek Lee, Melissa Lee, Nicole Lee, Louis Gueziec and David Tran.
