The Fremont Union High School District could soon be writing a new chapter for the Lynbrook High School library. The district is in the early planning stages with a familiar architecture firm to enhance the library experience for Lynbrook students.
Early proposals for the Lynbrook library include creating more flexible and inviting spaces in the library to accommodate meetings and work areas. This could include installing a glass partition between the conference room and the career center so that the two rooms can be combined when needed.
There are plans to remove some bookshelves so that more audiovisual and video projector equipment can be added. A new exterior door could also be added to the reading room.
Other plans involve adding an entrance kiosk so that students can access printers quicker and reconfiguring a second entrance to the library with a station for monitoring books.
The district board got an overview of the proposals at its Aug. 12 meeting, where Quattrocchi Kwok Architects’ project contract was approved. A follow-up design meeting is tentatively scheduled at Lynbrook near the end of this month.
The project is part of the architects’ ongoing master planning process at Lynbrook. QKA has worked on numerous FUHSD bond measure programs over the past few years. Master plans were also developed at Cupertino and Homestead high schools. The goal of each school’s master plan is to “guide decision-making as the district accommodates a significant enrollment growth and transforms their schools to meet the needs of 21st-century learning,” according to QKA’s website.
Lynbrook master plan projects to date have included a redesign of the campus frontage, rafter tail repairs, new track and fields, and solar photovoltaic panels.
QKA also worked with Blach Construction and Kitchell on Cupertino High’s 29,000-square-foot student union building, which was unveiled in January. The two-level building houses the cafeteria, library and counseling and administration offices for the campus all under one roof.
