Late in the season, Cupertino High School girls soccer coach Gavin Goes predicted that his star forward, Stephanie Magellan, would be named the Most Valuable Player of the Santa Clara Valley Athletic League’s El Camino Division, even as his team was finishing a distant fourth to undefeated Milpitas.

Last week the other coaches in the league made Goes look like Nostradamus by bestowing MVP honors on the Pioneers’ senior standout.

Magellan, who scored an amazing 33 goals this season and a school record 69 for her brilliant four-year varsity career, was one of seven Cupertino players to earn all-league honors, just two fewer than league champ Milpitas.

Among Magellan’s many remarkable accomplishments this season were 12 multi-goal games and a streak of eight straight matches with at least one goal scored. She had a total of 25 multi-goal matches for her career.

Teammate Courtney Chan was named Sophomore of the Year by the league’s coaches, while Jordan Amick, Serena Kutney and Hannah Goes each earned first team honors.

Maggie Bell and Madison Malon were both selected to the second team.

Other top honors in the SCVAL’s El Camino Division went to Milpitas’ Sarina Bolden (Defensive MVP) and Jazmin Latimore (Co-Junior of the Year), Fremont’s Jessica Yu (Offensive MVP) and Savannah Melendez (Co-Senior of the Year), Gunn’s Natalie Perreault (Co-Senior of the Year) and Natalie Hill (Freshman of the Year), Monta Vista’s Monica Polgar (Most Valuable Goalie) and Lynbrook’s Kristen Wong (Co-Junior of the Year).
