Armed robbery–July 7, 12:01 a.m. Hollenbeck Avenue and El Camino Real. A man was walking on Hollenbeck Avenue, south of El Camino Real, when he was approached by an unknown person from behind. The person grabbed his gold chain from his neck and his wallet from his pants. During the altercation, the person stabbed the man. He was taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Driving under the influence–July 6, 1 a.m. Fair Oaks Park. Officers responded to Fair Oaks Park on a report of a major injury collision at the park. Officers found the vehicle was traveling at a high rate of speed and left the roadway, knocking over a light pole and colliding with the bleachers at the park. The vehicle suffered major damage, but all three occupants were able to get out of the car. All three people sustained moderate injuries and were taken to hospitals for treatment. The driver was found to be under the influence and was arrested.
Under the influence and resisting arrest–July 5, 9:22 p.m. 1100 block of Ayala Drive. Officers responded to a report of a fight. Upon arrival, three people involved ran from officers. They were subsequently stopped and found to be under the influence of a controlled substance. All three were arrested and booked into county jail for being under the influence, resisting arrest and a probation violation.
Possession of a destructive device–July 4, 9:57 p.m. E. Duane Avenue. An officer on patrol heard a loud explosion coming from the area of an apartment complex. While investigating the explosion, the officer found two adult males who had lit a mortar-type device, which exploded while they were still holding the device. Both subjects suffered major injuries to their hands, including fingers that were blown off. Both subjects were treated at the scene and taken to trauma hospitals. The case is being referred to the district attorney for lighting a destructive device near an inhabited dwelling.
Apartment fire–July 3, 6:37 a.m. W. Weddell Drive. Firefighters responded to a fire alarm at an apartment complex. Upon arrival, crews found a clothes dryer fire on the third floor of the complex. The fire was extinguished and did not extend beyond the dryer area.
Auto burglary–July 2, 11:32 p.m. Oakmead Parkway. An unknown person broke into a 2014 Ford Fiesta rental car and stole a backpack containing a laptop computer, Japanese passport and $10,000 cash.
Vehicle fire–July 2, 3:19 p.m. 150 E. El Camino Real. Firefighters responded on a report of a vehicle fully involved in fire within a parking lot. The fire was extinguished, but the vehicle was a total loss. Officers found a family of three resided in the vehicle, none of whom was injured in the fire. DPS personnel worked with the Red Cross to obtain assistance for the family.
Petty theft–July 2, 2:30 p.m. W. El Camino Real. Three individuals left in a car after taking seven PlayStation 3 controllers.
Attempted murder and domestic violence–July 2, 2 a.m. Coronado Drive. DPS personnel responded to a residence on a reported medical issue. Upon arrival an officer found a man had suffered a stab wound to his chest. He was taken to the hospital in critical condition. An investigation found that he and his girlfriend were involved in an argument when the girlfriend stabbed him. The girlfriend was arrested.
