The city of Sunnyvale rests at the Heart of Silicon Valley. The clean, safe, and visually beautiful city offers residents and visitors a few key events throughout the calendar year. Residents can enjoy the Art & Wine Festival , the Summer Music Series, a holiday lighting ceremony near Christmas, and other smaller events speckled throughout the calendar months.
In 2011 the 27th annual Art & Wine Festival will kick off in Sunnyvale. The event is hosted by the Sunnyvale Chamber of Commerce. The wine makers of California converge on Sunnyvale to showcase their latest creations, divine stock, and sample wines for the population to enjoy. Some local breweries also bring out their beer stock for tasting. But alcohol is not the only attraction for this event. There's also great food and fun to be had for children. The festival typically is held in the beginning of June and can be found in the newly revamped downtown district.
The 2011 Sunnyvale Summer Music Series will mark the 12th year this event has taken place in downtown Sunnyvale. On Historic Murphy avenue in the summer heat, residents and guests to the city can revel in rock, jazz, Latin, funk, and many other styles of music across many different weekends. Styled like a block party, this event offers beer on hand, outdoor seating, and a variety of local and out of town bands for two months: July and August.
While the previous two festivals may appear to be geared towards the adult population of Sunnyvale, there's one event held annually that intrigues children as much as it entertains adults. The Hands on the Art Festival does just as it suggests: allows guests to dip creative hands into artistic work. This event offers kids a chance to work alongside a professional artist and experience the art form in a safe and educational manner. The day-long festival gives children from kindergarten to the eighth grade a full day to hone their skills as a painter. They will experience different styles of artwork, genres, and applications. They'll learn techniques and put them to use. Parents of the participating students can enjoy daylong entertainment, food and fun as well.
Sunnyvale offers many different seasonal events throughout the year, refined cultural events perfect for the location, and education events for children to learn and parents to unwind. In a city dubbed the Heart of Silicon Valley, it's no surprise to find some of the most engaging events.
